Twas the Night Before Alumafiesta

February 5, 2013  |  Airstream Blog

Alumafiesta is an Airstream Rally brought to you by the folks at Airstream Life. You may have heard of Alumapalooza or Alumafandago, well this is their newest event for Airstreamers in the South West (or anyone willing to travel to Tucson).

Alumafiesta is being held at Lazydays RV Campground. We arrived here on Sunday and were excited to see all of the citrus trees between sites. Unfortunately there was a frost that ruined most of the orange trees, but it turns out that frost is good for grapefruit – it actually makes them a little sweet.

Brian was inspired by the abundance of grapefruit to find a new cocktail that featured it. He came up with the Hemingway Daiquiri which contains white rum, fresh lime juice, fresh grapefruit juice and maraschino liqueur. We’ve named it the official drink of spot 1448 at Alumafiesta. If you’re here and would like to try it, come by towards the end of happy hour.

Why the end of happy hour? Well, Brian also came up with the ambitious idea of photographing every Airstreamer here with their rig and with 83 or 84 trailers here, we’ve got our work cut out for us. I think the hardest part is that we want to sit and chat with everyone we meet so moving on to the next trailer is a little challenging. Check out the first 7 couples in our Alumafiesta Photo Album.

Dinner Last Night:
Kale and Cabbage Salad. It’s a good thing I made this salad earlier in the day, because after work we went trailer hopping with the camera and then had company until 8. So it was nice to have a light dinner ready after everyone left. (It was very good by the way).

2013 Cost of Camping:
Through Sunday Feb 10:
13 nights paid camping
27 nights free camping
Total spent on camping this year: $400.25
Daily average cost of camping: $10.01
