Check-in Times and a Birthday Girl

January 20, 2013  |  blog

Yesterday morning we packed it up and drove 2 hours west to San Diego. Around 11:30am we arrived at the Mission Bay RV Resort. We didn’t have a reservation, but I called a few hours earlier to see if they had space, and they said they did. I asked if we should make a reservation and the lady said we didn’t need one if we would be there before 5. I said we would be there in a couple hours, so she said ok and no mention of a check-in time.

When we arrived, I went to the front desk and tried to check in. The guy behind the counter said I couldn’t check in until 2pm. Well that wasn’t going to work because we had to get our chores done before the birthday party we were going to at 3pm. The guy said if I wanted to check in at 11:30 am, I would have to pay for two days. Well no thanks, and I walked out.

As I was walking to the truck, the guy ran out the door and said that he could let me check in at 12:30. Ya, no thanks. I called Santa Fe RV Park Resort up the street and they said they’d let us check in right away. Cost for one night was $67.63.

We got our laundry done, scrubbed down the trailer and took long showers to get pretty for the 1 year birthday celebration for Madeline.

2013 Cost of Camping:

  1. $68…that must have hurt…and all those rules!! you guys are desert rats now….

  2. and glad you made it to the party….Madeline is a cutie….

  3. let’s see…that works out to about $2000 a month. Hmm, maybe we don’t want a trailer after all…!

    • That place has monthly and weekly rates that are a bit more reasonable. State parks in CA run about $35/night without hookups. We averaged about $860/month in 2012 – but as you may have noticed we’re trying to beat that, and in the process are going to a lot more interesting places.

    • Rich – don’t forget that you have things like being old (Senior Discount) and a veteran that will work to lower your camping costs in some places ;) Can’t veterans camp for Free in all WA State Parks?
