Quartzsite Boondocking

February 25, 2013  |  Arizona

For those who’ve never heard of Quartzsite, it’s an RV mecca. According to the Quartzsite Chamber of Commerce website:

During the winter season, there have been over 75,000 RVs in the desert and town.

Well, with that in mind we knew we had to come see it for ourselves. I’ve actually been researching where to camp now for a couple years, and with “over 70 campgrounds, and thousands of acres of BLM campgrounds” it definitely took some research.

I picked Roadrunner BLM as my first choice and Dome Rock BLM as my second. We were looking for a spot with some isolation and beauty, as well as the usual cell service requirements.

Pictured above we’re at the Roadrunner location which is about 5 miles south of town on Pipeline Road. The ground is level and there is a ton of room to turn around and find some privacy.

Yesterday we checked out Dome Rock, and it’s a nice location but wasn’t so much better that we would move, and the roads into the more isolated parts of Dome Rock are much bumpier.

Oh and at Roadrunner we get 4G AT&T and 4G Verizon AND we get over the air HD TV.

Dinner Last Night:
Carrot Noodles with “Peanut” Sauce. This was a really good gluten-free raw vegan meal. The recipe makes a lot of peanut (it’s really almond) sauce, but fortunately I have some broccoli and rice noodles that it would go great with tonight.

2013 Cost of Camping:
14 nights paid camping
41 nights free camping
Total spent on camping this year: $407.75
Daily average cost of camping: $7.41

  1. Love this pic!

  2. You look so all alone! Hard to believe so many other RVs are in the area.

  3. So glad to find your blog. We plan on returning to the south west next year. Your detailed information will be invaluable. Sorry, we didn’t cross paths this year.
