Flagstaff KOA

April 29, 2012  |  Arizona, camping

The Flagstaff KOA holds a special place in our heart because it was a first for us for a few things.

When we got our first Airstream, we never thought we’d ever go to a KOA or a trailer park type of camp ground. We imagined we’d be boondocking our hearts out with our big fancy batteries. Anyway, we spent our first night in the trailer in Burbank saying good bye to our friends, and then our second night boondocking in Flagstaff. On Sunday June 19, 2005, we woke up with dead batteries and we weren’t able to get them charged with our generator so we headed to the closest campground. The Flagstaff KOA.

That same day, since we were newbies, Brian spent an hour at least trying to set up our satellite dish and then took a long shower in the trailer, promptly filling up the grey tank. We had no idea how to dump the water, but a friendly Airstreamer showed us how. Another first. Flagstaff KOA equals our first campground and our first dump ever. One of those firsts I guess you never forget.

  1. so I guess we met you three when you had been out 7 months? at Ft. Desoto when a vintage Airstream rode by our site and some cute young girl is hanging half way out the passenger window yelling, “I love your Airstream !!!” and we promptly stayed up all night having a wine fest…I think Brian was bald by then…must have been that first dump in AZ….love him bald! love all three of you…

  2. Hey I seem to remember we were in Big Meadows Campground and heard sort of the same yell from a the same young girl hanging out of the truck window..”Nice Airstream!”
We have met some of our best friends have been since we started traveling in our Airstream. Our thanks to Leigh for saying hello to us that day.

  3. Happy anniversary, sort of!
You and Brian have learned a lot since those days, but I’m happy the three of you are still enjoying life and picking up nice people along the way.

  4. **Note to self, the free wifi works great here! (spot 30)
