Fish Lake

August 5, 2013  |  washington

This past Saturday we towed our house about an hour South West to Fish Lake. There are 6 Department of Fish & Wildlife campgrounds surrounding the lake. After checking out the first two, we made camp at the third which had a nice view of the lake.

Once we settled in, we checked out the other 3 camps and were happy with our choice. The next one over from us had a few rigs, and the others after that were a little more overgrown.

The weekend before, when we were scouting campgrounds, we spoke to the camp host at Lost Lake. She said there weren’t any hosts at nearby Blair or Beaver, and because of that local kids liked to party there at night.

Well, I think Fish Lake may also be a local party scene. Even though no one was in our campground, we could hear music, loud talking and 4×4′s racing around from about 10pm to 3 or 4 in the morning.

I turned our fan on to mask the sound, and tried turning it off every few hours to see if it was quiet yet, but it wasn’t until I turned it off at 5am.

If this happens regularly, I wouldn’t recommend Fish Lake, but if it was just a one time thing, it’s a beautiful place to camp and it’s free with a Discover Pass. (no cell service)

Dinner Last Night:
Friday: Veggie Sushi. This time I put the nori on the outside and wrapped the entire bamboo mat in plastic wrap which made cleaning up a lot easier. I also watched this video for rolling tips and used Lightly Milled Sprouted Brown Rice, which is really good!

Saturday: Vegan Margherita Pizzas. I baked the pizza in our cast iron pan, it made for a perfect crust.

Sunday: Zucchini Cakes. This is a repeat for us, very much worth repeating.

  1. sushi is beautiful….welcome back to the ranch…

  2. Not a sushi person but the zucchini cakes sound yummy!!

Your new site is so pretty, I hope you had a quieter night.

    • Hi Pam! The sushi, was actually veggie sushi – so no fish at all, just cucumbers, carrots, avocado and rice. The rice has rice vinegar and mirin mixed in to make it sticky. I think you might like them.

We were only at that spot for the night, now we’re back on our property where the only noise we hear is an occasional “moo!”
