Kale Smoothies

December 11, 2012  |  breakfast, food

Sunday morning, Ryan made us his new favorite smoothie recipe.

1 apple
1 pear
1 celery stick
1 small persian cucumber
a handful of kale
2 cups of ice
2 cups of apple juice

Makes 2 smoothies. I thought he could have added more kale, but wanted to try his original recipe. It was delicious and refreshing. We usually have bananas in ours, so the apple/pear combo was a nice change.

  1. Recipe in our paper today….they really rave about kale being a great food….the girl who wrote the article advised you hide the fact you are putting kale in your kid’s smoothie….but I say… if you named it green slime, they would love it…Mean Green Smoothie: 1 drink….1 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1 cup frozen berries, 1 banana peeled, 2 cups coarsely chopped kale (ribs removed), 1/2 cup pitted, coarsely chopped dates (Medjool dates)….blend until smooth and creamy…483 calories….119 g carbs ….that seems a lot….but 15 g fiber….that’s good…I will try it…

  2. Our standard recipe these days is:

    – 1T flax seed
    – 1 (packed) C spinach
    – 1 C skim milk or water
    – 1 frozen banana
    – 1/4 C misc. frozen fruit
