Veggie Sushi

Brian made this!

Ok, well I helped some. We’ve always wanted to make sushi at home. My mom gave me a book, but I was too intimidated to ever try. Anyway, I found directions for Sushi for Beginners and decided to finally give it a shot.

First I got Lundberg Organic California Sushi Rice (hopefully no arsenic since it’s from CA) and Yama Moto Yama yaki nori roasted seaweed. I actually didn’t follow the rice directions on the Sushi for Beginners post, I followed the directions on the bag. After cooking the rice, it called for 2 T of rice vinegar and 1 1/2 T of sugar dissolved over heat and then mixed in to the cooked rice. I stuck the rice in the fridge and then chopped up carrots, cucumber, avocado.

I ended up following the directions on the nori on how to roll, because the beginner directions had the nori on the outside, but we wanted the rice on the outside. Our rolls also included cream cheese and pea greens (also called pea shoots). I made the first roll, but Brian surprised me by making the rest because he really wanted to make sure we would do this on a regular basis.

Oh one more note – we had fun joking about what a bad sushi chef he’d be because he kept licking the sticky rice off of his fingers.

  5. GOOD JOB! This is very nicely done. We make these at home and mess up the whole place but it sure feels good to be able to make it when the sushi craving hits! -Anna-Marie & Mike (Platinum Airship)
