Floor Mats

It took me almost a year to pull the trigger on floor mats for the Airstream. First I looked at carpet tiles from Flor, then figured carpet is probably a bad idea even though they have interesting high-traffic, not very carpety tiles. Then I considered GelPro, thinking Curtis might enjoy the squooshiness to lay on, but then I decided they didn’t look right. Then we met Tim & Merilee (our first month in the trailer) and Merilee suggested Chilewich. I ordered samples a few times and settled on a color by October, but couldn’t decide what size mats to order. In JUNE, I met Kevin and Larua who had 2 Chilewich utility mats and the sizes they had were perfect.

You’d think the story ends there. But that weekend at Stub Stewart State Park, I was completely distracted by all of the decorating that the other Airstreamers had done to their trailers and I started to second guess my color choices. I was being too neutral and safe and not colorful and exciting, so I went ahead and ordered 2 mats in a color I had never seen a sample for!

Well, the mats turned out to be too dark for the light cabinetry of the Flying Cloud model, so I ended up ordering my original pick. The story still isn’t over. I had them shipped to us at Lake Pleasant RV Park, and was monitoring their tracking when I saw that they were on a train that got derailed!

Anyway. Chilewich customer service was great and they re-shipped my order to our Bellingham address. For some reason I only got the door mat, but then finally yesterday the basket-weave mat arrived and I LOVE it.

I guess this is why our Airstream is sparsely decorated. I have trouble making those kind of decisions and when I do it takes 2 months to get the order right.
