On our hike to the Marshal South Home, I squatted down to take the photo above. We were on a trail, so I didn’t think to look behind me.
I ended up sitting in this cholla cactus (the one in the middle at the bottom of the photo). Brian came to the rescue and pulled my pants away from my skin which removed most of the prickers from my butt. He was then able to remove the prickers from the pants. Some still remained in my skin, so I had to bare my bottom on the trail so he could get the rest.
Lesson learned, look before you squat to take a photo – especially in the desert.
Dinner Last Night:
A month ago I posted my recipe for Veggie Soba Noodles. Well, I last night I was in the mood for soba noodles, but this time I used the sauce from this Sesame Soba Noodle Salad recipe and added bok choy and red peppers. It was good, but not as good as my other recipe.

Oh, man, I am aching for you!!! The things we do for pictures. But, this is a good reminder. I rarely think to look around before I get positioned for a picture. Hope Brian was able to get all the prickers out:)
Ouch! I had a run in with a Cholla back in Tucson and it wasn’t fun. Those prickly things really hurt! At least you got a good picture out of it though.
Oh no! I gave this same “advise” (look behind you before you stoop/squat/bend) to the Lindners when we were all in Borrego. I didn’t think to pass it on to you & Brian because you had desert camping experience. Oops. Well I am certain you will not need reminding in the near future.
Well, we didn’t get Eleanor’s advice before Kathryn had already managed to get a cholla handful while removing it from her shoe….
I’m sure she won’t forget it, nor the pliers required to remove it from her hand.
Oh boy. I’ve been there too. Hope all is well. Better squatting next time 🙂
Sorry, I had to giggle, it reminded of the time we were roughing it tent camping and I “squatted” on nettles…I love soba noodles, I think we will try that recipe tonight!
