The Rose Theater is my favorite movie theater I’ve ever been to. The movie almost doesn’t matter because the popcorn and the ambiance is so good.
The popcorn comes completely plain. They have butter and a spice bar where you can add whatever you’d like to it. I like brewers yeast, salt and garlic. There’s also a recipe book in the lobby where people have written their favorite popcorn spice combos.
One thing I learned after it was too late is many regulars ask for their popcorn in a bag one size up from the size they’re ordering so they can distribute the spices better with a good shake.
Before the movie starts, a staff member goes to the front of the theater and tells the audience a little bit about the movie and then also gives out a door prize related to the film. Last night we saw the movie “Chef” (which was very cute) and the prize was a gift certificate to a local food truck.

What a great find!! I love that popcorn idea. Clever!
We loved “Chef”, and spicy popcorn!
How fun! Love the popcorn spice bar. I don’t usually get movie theater popcorn because they put that nasty butter on top. This sounds like a much better way. Now I want popcorn 🙂
Port Townsend! Be sure to stop in at the chapel at Ft Worden. My parents were married there in 1943. Great little town and much more gentrified than in the 40s.
OMG we are totally going to that movie theater next week. Sounds awesome — thanks for the tip! 🙂
Laura, we stayed in Port Townsend for a month in 2006, I love the popcorn so much I would go to this theater even if I wasn’t interested in the movie!
Wow that sounds great. We are going to have to check it out if we are in the area. That’s exactly the kind of theaters we like. Thanks.
