Sam & Jan

We met Sam and Jan a few years ago when they were hiking by our property. They live down the hill from us and hike at least 4 miles every day.

During the year, Jan and I communicate on Facebook. She posts a lot of interesting pictures from around the neighborhood, like bald eagles eating carcasses or photos of how overgrown our driveway has become.

This past Sunday when we arrived, our driveway didn’t seem very overgrown. We didn’t realize that it had been mowed, though it inspired us to find a way to mow the rest of our parking area.

Later that evening, we asked Sam if he knew of anyone with a mower. He said he had a pushable weed wacker we could use.

We told Sam our road was actually clear, we just needed it for the parking area. He then confessed that he was guilty of mowing our driveway and then apologized for not doing more!

As you can see, our driveway is ridiculously long, and we are so lucky to have such kind and generous neighbors.

Dinner Last Night:
Grilled Ramen. I’ve had this recipe saved for a long time, but whenever I read through it, I decide it’s too much work. Well, it took me 2 days of prep, but I finally made it.

I ordered Kombu Dried Seaweed off of Amazon to make the broth.

This soup was delicious, and now that I’ve made it once, I think it wouldn’t be so bad to make again. Plus, now I have left-over broth in the freezer.

I often make Miso soup with Kombu seaweed. Super easy and only takes around 20 mins to make from scratch. For non-vegans you can drop an egg into the soup at the end for a very rich and tasty egg drop.

Nice neighbors, indeed! How did you ever get that overhead of your driveway…is that a google map thing?
