Valley of Fires Recreation Area

I didn’t know much about Valley of Fires Recreation Area when I put it on our itinerary. I knew it was BLM and according to the Verizon map it would get great cell service.

When we arrived, we were impressed by the vista of ancient lava flow and were immediately struck by how tidy the campground looked.

Dry camping is $12/night and partial hookups (water/power) is $18/night. We were torn between the hookups spot with the fantastic view or continuing our streak of not plugging in this year. We opted for the view.

Dinner Last Night:
Vegetarian Sloppy Joes. We’ve had this once before, it’s so good.

2015 Cost of Camping:
52 night paid camping
37 nights free camping
89 days this year
Total spent: $694
Daily average cost: $7.97

    Views always win out.
I keep saving these fabulous sounding recipes but don’t ever seem to get around to making them. How do you keep motivated to cook so often?

Hey you guys! Cooking is relaxing for me. I get inspired to cook when we’re camping near good grocery stores, it’s when we’re in places like this that it’s really challenging. I don’t have a whole lot planned for this week. I’m defrosting some soup for tonight. It also helps that Brian does the dishes after I totally destroy the kitchen.
