Very Large Array

Yesterday morning, we woke up at Datil Well Campground which is about 15 minutes from the Very Large Array.

The VLA consists of 27 radio antennas set up in a Y formation. Combined, their data is processed by a super computer and produces the “resolution of an antenna 36km (22 miles) across, with the sensitivity of a dish 130 meters (422 feet) in diameter.”

The Very Large Array is available for use by students and researchers around the world!

We took the walking tour and whispered sweet nothings to each other at the parabolic microphone display.
