Yosemite – Lower Pines Campground

Back on the 15th of January at 7am, I was able to snag 2 nights at Lower Pines Campground at Yosemite National Park.

The booking window opens up 6 months in advance on the 15th of each month, and campsites go fast.

Our drive day was beautiful, but when we arrived, we had thunder showers for a few hours and the campground was a crowded smoky soggy mess.

We tried going out for a little touristy adventure. Instead, we sat behind these cars for over an hour until we decided to go back to the trailer. Lucky for us, Sunday was beautiful.

Dinner Saturday Night:
Easy Miso Soup. The name does not lie. This is super easy. I added udon noodles, mushrooms and carrots. Perfect for a rainy night.

2015 Cost of Camping:
79 night paid camping
77 nights free camping
156 days this year
Total spent: $1380.97
Daily average cost: $8.85

Wow, it’s not every picture of trees and rain that makes me want to be there. Nice!

What’s your site number? We’ve looked at Yosemite and it seems that most of the spaces won’t take our 28 foot Flying Cloud.

      Hi Mary Kay!

We were in site 50. I called and was told these sites could accommodate our 27 foot Airstream:

      Lower Pines – 20, 27, 38, 50,
      North Pines – 323, 111, 128, 125, 403, 116

We actually even had enough sun the next day to get our batteries fully re-charged!

And THAT is why you won’t see us camping IN Yosemite. Just too many people. We will drive in, having camped elsewhere, but otherwise it’s just too much hassle, starting with trying to get a reservation at 7:00 a.m. six months in advance. To each his or her own.

I have had youre sight bookmarked and love to see all the places you have been, thanks for sharing…
I have a question on Yosemite area, did you see any motorcycles? and in particular were they splitting lanes or riding on the shoulder? I deal with sitting in traffic enough ,don’t want to deal with it on my leasure time. if my two wheels can get me past the four wheels I think I can deal with Yosemite….

Hi Ken – we did see some motorcycles, though I didn’t really notice how most of them were traveling – except one that crossed over into oncoming traffic. Sorry!
