RV Camping in the French Quarter

This past week we dropped the big bucks and stayed at the French Quarter RV Resort. For approximately $93 a night (weekly rate), it was still cheaper than getting a hotel room and we planned to treat our stay like a vacation rather work all week.

Shortly after we got here, we discovered that there is overnight camping allowed at the public parking lot next door for $50/night.

When we return (we will return, we absolutely loved it here), we’ll probably camp a few nights in the public lot and a few in the RV Resort. It’s nice having full hookups for daily showers and we enjoyed soaking in the jacuzzi after long days on our feet.

2016 Cost of Camping:
23 nights free camping
90 nights paid camping (thru Saturday 4/23)
113 days this year
Total spent on camping this year: $2499.90
Daily average cost of camping: $22.12

Do you try to alternate between free and paid sites when they are a more expensive site?

In the west we prefer free as much as possible. Free camping in the west is generally much more appealing than paid camping in terms of scenery and proximity to other campers. As far as New Orleans go, $93/night is really steep, so yes we’d go with the free option just to offset the high nightly rate.
