Big thumbs down for the Monterey County Fair RV Park. The first spot the camp host tried to give us required a ton of maneuvering, and once we were in it, we realized it was going to be even harder hitching back up AND we weren’t going to be able to reach the sewer, so we moved to the spot pictured above. This spot is just ok. All of them seem to have shared utilities, where one spot has the power, water and sewer and the neighbor spot has to try and reach. They’re also quite short, so when the truck is hooked up it’s head to head with the rv across from us. There really isn’t any room. We could have had a spot where there was a chance to get hit by golf balls but we decided against that. Two nights $80.

is your truck living up to your expectations?
The truck has been great! I prefer the turbo diesel over our old gas engine, more power with slightly better mpg. I really like having the Prius with us so that we only have to use the truck on drive days. Are you guys thinking about getting a new truck?
hey, Brian….we will need one soon….118,000 miles on the Jeep….it has served well when many told us it would not…..xoxo
It is very difficult finding a good RV spot in the vicinity of Carmel-Monterey-Salinas. We like to stay the Laguna Seca Raceway. RV spots are located up high with a great long view of the valley. Plus, it’s only a few minutes up the road from Hwy 1. It is surprisingly peaceful when cars aren’t racing. However, if you get lucky (like we did), it’s fun to wake up and hear the roar of a vintage Porsche race getting started.
Thanks for the tip! We’ll try out Laguna Seca next time we go through Monterey. I’m kinda bummed that we didn’t know about this because the porches were racing that weekend – do you have a view of the track from the RV area?
If you get an RV spot “up high” you end up with a fantastic view of turn 5 from about 400-500 feet. It’s pretty cool. When we were last there (summer 2007) I took the pickup down to the track with my kids and we tailgated right there on the fence. It was fun watching the vintage Porsche’s running absolutely flat out. I think it was fairly low dollar too ($30-40/night). I imagine it’s hard to find a spot during a major event but having looked all over the area for good campsites, this is the best value.
