Saturdays are drive days for us. We work during the week, drive on Saturday and hopefully relax on Sunday.
The reason drive day is Saturday vs. Sunday is just in case the campground we’re moving to doesn’t work out, it gives us another day to find a place to camp.
I had high hopes for our first stop yesterday. San Lorenzo Canyon Recreation Area promised beautiful slot canyons and looked like it was close enough to the highway for cell reception.
There is cell service near the entrance, though it quickly drops away as you head toward the canyon. The entrance wasn’t very appealing, so we drove back through the tunnel to check out another spot west of Socorro.
We weren’t actually going to go to The Box Recreation Area, but I thought it might have better cell reception than our next stop so we figured it was worth a try. No luck.
Water Canyon Campground was also a bust.
Since there isn’t a ton of campground research for Brian to do in Socorro, we decided to skip our week in the area and press on to Arizona.
We spent the night at Datil Well Campground. It was the nicest place we’d seen all day, though unfortunately, the area is not dense enough with campgrounds to be our final stop for the week.
Dinner Last Night:
I sure didn’t feel like cooking after all that. We had left-over pasta pesto and some steamed broccoli.
