Mall Camping

Yesterday we drove 3 hours north from Ashland to Eugene.

I first read about camping at the Valley River Center on the Wheeling It blog, and then I saw it again on WatsonsWander. Both blogs have great photos and coverage of the area, I just ran outside for a quick photo.

The mall allows free RV camping for up to 2 nights. Security greeted us right when we arrived and issued a permit that we have displaying on the outside of the trailer.

Dinner Last Night:
Chopped kale salad with portabella mushrooms and asparagus. I didn’t realize the recipe called for quinoa until I was putting it together, so I skipped it. This was a DELICIOUS salad.

2013 Cost of Camping:
47 nights paid camping
106 nights free camping
153 days this year
Total spent on camping this year: $971.08
Daily average cost of camping: $6.35

That looks like the ame area of the parking lot where we stayed. Hope you had a chance to take the walking path across the river. It’s a very nice trail.

Hey, you are close to a great Organic Farm owned by a friend of mine. Actually, he was our next door neighbor and our youngest’s age. Stop in and tell Gabe that I said ‘hi’ Check out his website….

Oooh that sounds wonderful. I’m not sure if we’ll have time. Tomorrow first thing we’re taking the trailer to get serviced and then we head north!

I’ll save the tip for next time we’re in the area.

That salad sounds terrific! I just pinned it to make sometime soon. Even without the quinoa it sounds really good.

I absolutely LOVE to park there when I’m in Eugene. It’s so much fun to ride your bike on the bike path. Hint: Next time, ride bikes on the bike path to McMennamins North Bank. Delicious brews and food along the river!

We are headed up that way in the fall, it’s nice to know it’s possible to stay two nights at the mall.

This is awesome. I wasn’t even aware that you COULD camp at the mall. You learn something new everyday. Those numbers are amazing as well. You are definitely efficient RVers!

Hi Greg, this is the only “mall” that I know of where you can camp. You probably already know that you can camp at some Walmarts, Cabelas and Camping Worlds but not all.
