We rang in the New Year on the north shore of Kauai. The eve itself was uneventful since we’ve been keeping PST hours due to my job in CST. The upside of starting work at 5am is that I’m done at 2pm, and while we were in Princeville, most afternoons we spent walking on the beach at Hanalei Bay.
There is a campground at the adjacent Black Pot Beach Park that is currently closed for construction, but once it re-opens it would be a choice destination for any tent camper.
The current go-to spot for camping on the north shore of Kauai is Anini Beach Park which even has space for vans and car campers.
The waves during our first visit here were crazy high, so when we returned for a beach walk, we were surprised to discover that it’s a great spot for snorkeling.
One of my new favorite vegetables is the wing bean. They’ve got a crunchy almost nutty flavor. So far we’ve only had them raw in salads – I wish we tried them earlier on our trip.
After dinner every evening, we strolled among the rainbow eucalyptus.
