    Kansas City Camping

This past week we’ve been camping at Jacomo Campground outside of Kansas City, Missouri. The campground is in a great location, sites are nicely spaced, and some even have full hook-ups! I wanted to stop in Kansas City because I spent the first 5 years of my life here. I haven’t been back until now, so it was fun to be able to see my first home. 2017 Cost of Camping: 47 nights free camping 218 nights paid camping 265 days this year Total spent on camping this year: $7449.70 Daily average cost of camping: $28.11

    John Prince Wildlife Show

For the past two weeks, we’ve been camping at John Prince Park Campground in Lake Worth Florida, halfway between the Fort Lauderdale Airport and my sister’s place in Jupiter – two places we wanted to go. In addition to being a great location, the highlight of our stay was the daily “wildlife show” out the back window. We even saw an alligator, fortunately it stayed out of our campsite. 2017 Cost of Camping: 4 nights free camping 51 nights paid camping (thru 2/25) 55 days this year Total spent on camping this year: $2027.19 Daily average cost of camping: $36.86

    Turtle Beach

This past week we’ve been camping at Turtle Beach Campground in Sarasota, Florida. As you can see, we were a little packed in. The highlight of our stay was reconnecting with Ray and Terrie. It was the first time we’ve seen them since we met 11 years ago while camping at Fort Desoto! We also enjoyed a long walks on the beach and around the neighborhood. 2017 Cost of Camping: 4 nights free camping 9 nights paid camping (thru 1/13) 13 days this year Total spent on camping this year: $463.86 Daily average cost of camping: $35.68

    Tallahassee Camping

We spent the past week camping in Tallahassee at Coe Landing Campground. For three out of the seven nights, we were the only ones here. There aren’t any walking trails, so we walked the campground loop and the docks twice a day. Almost every night this pier was filled with fishermen. 2016 Cost of Camping: 36 nights free camping 308 nights paid camping 344 days this year Total spent on camping this year: $8855.12 Daily average cost of camping: $25.74

    5 Moves in 5 Days

You know how sometimes you just can’t get comfortable and you keep having to move? That seems to be the story of our life this week. Saturday we stopped at Rivermouth Campground at Tahquamenon Falls State Park for the night (as planned). It was lovely. On Sunday, we arrived at what we thought would be our campground for the week in Grand Marais. When we checked in, there was only 1 site available in the primitive area, but the office encouraged us to pay for the week and told us we’d have to move to a hookup site by Wednesday because the primitive area would be closed for a music…

Thankful For A House With Wheels

Yesterday, we drove an hour and a half south to Coyote Lake-Harvey Bear Ranch Park in Gilroy, CA. Our friend Dave had reported bad cell service on Campendium, but the Verizon map showed LTE, and since we have a booster so we thought we’d give it a shot. I reserved a site online, and when we arrived we discovered tents right behind our campsite pad. A friendly neighbor walked over and said “I can tell you have some questions! I’ve been coming here for years, I love this campground!” He suggested we move to a nearby first come first serve site. As we were moving, a ranger came around the…

Camping In & Around San Francisco

Out of all of the options we’ve tried for camping in and around San Francisco, our favorite spot is our current location at Anthony Chabot Regional Park. (Pictured above). It’s not IN the city, but for us, it’s close enough and the camping experience is a lot more enjoyable than the other options. Our old go-to spot was Half Moon Bay State Beach south of the city, but the campsites are close together and used to be dry camping only. Now they have electricity which at least cuts out the neighboring generator noise. We used to like going to San Francisco RV Resort. It’s in a great location, and we…

    Amacher Park

I’ve been so negligent with the blog lately, that I didn’t realize there were all sorts of wonderful and supportive comments on the most recent Curtis post. Thank you everyone – your words are so kind and we really appreciate them. I don’t know what’s going on with me and the blog. I’ve been overwhelmed with work and socializing, there doesn’t seem to be much personal time these days. I’m also just a habitual person. If I post every day, then that’s what I’m doing – if I don’t…well then, no posts for days. I’d like to get back in the habit. How about this idyllic photo of the Airstream?…
