    Summer in Chicago

I haven’t posted in awhile because we’ve been in an AirBnb in Chicago for the past 6 weeks. I’m working on a pretty intense project for my job, and they felt it was necessary for me to show up in person for a couple months. So here we are. Pictured is the view from our first place. Oddly, the lease on our unit expired during our stay, so our hosts moved us up 15 floors to a slightly bigger unit. Pictured above is my current work view. While it’s not my ideal setting, I’ve really enjoyed bonding with some of my co-workers and getting to know people I don’t normally…

    See ya later LA!

Last night was our last night in LA. First we went to Tiki No in North Hollywood. The bar was dimly light and smelled like chlorine. The drink menu didn’t list any of the ingredients in their tropical drinks, so everyone ordered something familiar. I had a Coconut Mojito, it was a little too sweet. Dinner was the highlight of the evening. From the tiki bar, we walked to an Italian restaurant called Angelino Pizzeria. It was fantastic. See ya later LA, time to go pay for some camping on the coast! 2014 Cost of Camping: 3 night paid camping 84 nights free camping 87 days this year Total spent…

    Photo Shoot

Yesterday we left the lap of luxury and moved over to Burbank. We’ve parked on this same street a few times. It costs $5 to park for 3 nights on the streets (we’re staying for 2), so I’ve added that to our total below. Our friend Ryan is a photographer. He didn’t have magic hour booked last night, so we took advantage of the opportunity and he shot our Christmas card photo. I know it’s a little early, but it’s always a challenge to get Curtis to cooperate with the timer on the camera. 2013 Cost of Camping: 17 nights paid camping 98 nights free camping Total spent on camping…

    Aaron’s 40th

One of the reasons we came to Vegas was for Aaron‘s 40th birthday. So last night we moved our home to the Las Vegas Strip and parked across the street from the Stratopshere Hotel & Casino. We called ahead to see if we could park the trailer there and they said we could, we just couldn’t sleep in it (so we had to be stealth). We met the gang for dinner at Sinatra’s at The Encore. The nice thing about restaurants at Wynn & Encore is they have a separate Vegan/Vegetarian menu because Steve Wynn is a vegan. Dinner was very late (by our standards) but delicious, so when we…

    Hello 2013

On New Year’s Eve we towed our house over to the party we were attending so we could just walk home afterwards. It’s a good thing we did, this year was a little rowdier than usual – and we were the pary-poopers who left EARLY at 2am!

    Instagram

Last night we hung out with the gang in LA and went up to Universal Studios for dinner and then to the Hobbit in 3D. I’ve been dabbling with Instagram lately so if you’re interested in seeing a couple other pictures from last night check out: http://instagram.com/aluminarium.

    Kale Smoothies

Sunday morning, Ryan made us his new favorite smoothie recipe. 1 apple 1 pear 1 celery stick 1 small persian cucumber a handful of kale 2 cups of ice 2 cups of apple juice Makes 2 smoothies. I thought he could have added more kale, but wanted to try his original recipe. It was delicious and refreshing. We usually have bananas in ours, so the apple/pear combo was a nice change.

    Designated Driver

This is the first year that we got a limo to take us tasting. In the past Brian has always been the designated driver and I would be the navigator. We went to 7 wineries. Daou had the most spectacular property, though the picture below doesn’t really show it. Our limo driver provided a surprisingly good picnic lunch of sandwich rolls, pasta salad and brownies that we enjoyed on the patio at Croad. Brian and I agreed that the best tasting wine was at Adelaida. It was a really fun time and we’re sold on being chauffeured around. – Daou Vineyards – Adelaida Cellars – Croad Vineyards – Shale Oak…

    Wine Country Weekend

Yesterday the gang drove up from L.A. for the weekend to celebrate Ryan‘s 40th Birthday. Our first stop was Tobin James Winery where the tasting is free and the room is always festive.
